Your baby will quickly learn to hug Mom, Dad and other people she’s comfortable around—as well as her stuffed gorilla, the cat and anything else she adores—by watching others hug and getting hugged herself. Not all babies are wild about hugging, though.

Many babies adore being held from the start, but it takes about 6 months before they have the physical and cognitive abilities to ask for a pick-me-up. It’s a body-language expression of how much they’ve come to trust and adore their parents.

Can you kiss your baby too much?
One of the most serious risks that come from kissing babies is the transfer of fever blisters, also known as cold sores. HSV 1 causes fever blisters to form around the baby’s mouth and can spread to other areas of the body, even their brain.
Why you should hug your child?
Not only are hugs good for children’s brain development and physical growth, but they also support emotional development. Nothing soothes the cries of a child with a skinned knee more quickly than a warm hug from an adult who loves them. In addition, hugs are the most effective way to end a temper tantrum.
